Cisco Network Assistant 5.5 and earlier

Category:

Network Support

Problems:

When launching Cisco Network Assistant as a non-administrator:

Read/Write Access Error

Note: Read/write access is required for user home directory and installation directory:
[path to user's profile]
C:\Program Files\Cisco Systems\Cisco Network Assistant

Application apparently tries creating a randomly named file in its installation folder to test this access.

Workarounds:

As a local Administrator, grant Modify access to the BUILTIN\Users local group for the installation folder. Example command line:

cacls "%programfiles%\Cisco Systems\Cisco Network Assistant" /e /t /g Users:c

The application will then work for non-administrators.

WARNING: This will expose your Cisco Network Assistant installation to abuse by Windows non-administrators.
