Company:

Sharman Networks Limited

Product:

KaZaA 3.0 and earlier

Category:

Peer to Peer Sharing

Problems:

Stores p2p shared files in installation folder
Stores some kind of database in installation folder it needs write access to
Starts up with a blank dialog box the first time a limited user launches it
"Unable to open C:\Program Files\Kazaa\Db\data1024.dbb" when launched as a limited user
Strangely enough, the Altnet p2p networking software, piggybacked with the free KaZaA version, runs just fine!

Workarounds:

None - due to the very large amount of third-party software accompanying the free version, running this software is not recommended under any circumstances.

Using KaZaA Lite is no better, and is not permitted by Sharman Networks. Please review the second web reference for details.
